Tsukuba Space Center: A Place to Experience the Frontiers of Space Development

One of the Facilities of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)

In Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, nestled within the Tsukuba Research and Education City, lies the Tsukuba Space Center. Here, alongside accessible exhibition facilities for the public, visitors also have the opportunity to take guided tours of some of the space aerospace development facilities.

Special events are held during Japan’s summer vacation and other extended holidays, making the Tsukuba Space Center a popular destination not only for children fascinated by space but also for adults seeking an exciting adventure.

Right inside the main entrance at the ‘Rocket Plaza,’ visitors can marvel at the actual H-II rocket on display. Inside the primary exhibition area, the ‘Space Dome,’ alongside exhibits showcasing massive artificial satellites and intricate models of Earth, visitors can delve into JAXA’s history and ongoing endeavors.

The ‘Planet Cube’ features both temporary exhibition spaces and a museum shop, offering an opportunity to purchase space-themed souvenirs.

Guided Tours

There’s a paid tour option available where visitors can hop on a bus provided by JAXA and explore the facilities with a guide. The tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes and is held twice a day, with each session accommodating up to 40 participants.

Since advance reservation is required for the tour, those interested are encouraged to check the official website for more information.

Facilities for Babies

Of course, there are nursing rooms available, providing peace of mind for visitors with babies. While the nursing rooms are not private, it’s recommended that breastfeeding mothers bring along a nursing cover. Please note that there is no hot water available for formula preparation, so plan accordingly.
